Literature Study on the Matters of Contraindication in Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy

Abstract
Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is a method of stimulative treatment. And the quantity and quality of stimulation is connected with effects of therapy. Also responses of patient are important. A wrong manipulation not considered with condition of a patient is apt to cause harmful effects.

The purpose of this paper is recognizing contraindication in acupuncture & moxibustion therapy and preventing harmful effects. This paper refers to character of contracupuncture-point & contramoxi-point and contraindication depends on conditions of patient, meridian points, body regions.

The results were obtained as follows ;

1. Contraindication depends on condition of patient in acupuncture treatment is a alcoholic intoxication, a overstrain, a intense anger, a grate terror, a overeating, a starvation, a thirst, a case of extreme weakness, a high fever, a disease which has tendency of bleeding, after discharge of much body fluid, a pulse and a symptom is seen contrary condition and so on, because it can cause irregular pulse and adverse flow of Qi(ØæÑêѨæ½). Contraindication of moxibustion treatment is a floating pulse(ØæÝ©), a rapid pulse(Øæâ¦òð), a accumulation of pathogenic heat in the interior(Þ÷æðÒ®îÝ), Yin-deficiency and interior-heat(ëäúÈÒ®æð), because moxibustion can reinforce Yang and impare Yin(ìÌåÕß¿ëä).

2. Body region which must treat carefully is surrounding of an important internal organs, a being shallow distributed blood vessel, the ears, the breast and so on. A doctor need not adhere to the contracupuncture-point except for shingwol(ãêÏô CV_(8)), Yujung(êáñé S_(17)). A docter must acupuncture with care in direction and degree of depth. It is not allowed to carry out festering moxibustion in face and a grate blood vessel. A woman is forbidden to be treated in Sokmun(à´Ú¦ CV_(5)). A pregnant woman is forbidden to be treated in the abdomen, the lumbo-sacrum, Hapkok(ùêÍÛ LI©þ), Samumgyo(ß²ëäÎß SP_(6)). A child is forbidden to be treated in the vertex when Xinmun(½Å¹®) has not been closed.

3. The meridian which shows the highest percentage toward all the number of meridian points in each meridian is the Conception Vessel Meridian(21%) in contracupuncture-point. And in the case of contramoxi-point is the Lung Meridian(45%).

4. There are a lot of contracupuncture-points & contramoxi-points which have character of clearing away heat(ôèæð), dispelling heat(àÜæð), dispelling fire(àÜûý).
